- Homeschooling helpIn General Discussion21 June 2024I'm an ex-homeschooler with multiple Neurodivergent conditions, and I'd say it really wasn't helpful for me. I was in a public school from 5-9, then homeschool, and I was never really socially there, even in public school, but after I came out of homeschool when I was 13, it was worse. Also, I've always been way ahead in school, but when I homeschooled, I only spent time exploring my hyperfixations, and my ADHD was through the roof (though I didn't know what it was back then, I just thought I was stupid). I didn't necessarily get behind in school, but I'm not nearly as far ahead as I was, and if I weren't already ahead by a lot, then I would be way behind and probably failing. Just something to think about. Also, my mom was busy teaching my four younger siblings, so I had no one to keep up with me and make sure I was doing my work. So if you do end up homeschooling, I'd say try to find events or something you can do to be social (even if it feels hard), but don't push yourself too hard. Also, have someone to keep you accountable for your work.00
- Homeschooling helpIn General Discussion7 June 2024I've seen a couple of your videos over the last couple of weeks. Very moving. To my knowledge I've never known anyone with your conditions. You explain them very well. Thank you. I will continue watching and learning. About home schooling, I have a niece who has been schooled at home via computer since covid hit hard in the US. That was in 2020 (I think) and she was in the 9th grade. She graduated high school last year and completed her first year of college (online) this year. Socially, I see that she is afraid to interact with people her own age and to experience life outside her home; where she lives with her parents and brother. I feel this is also where her depression comes from. Home schooling may be easier for you but not for life experiences you need. You are a beautiful person physically and intellectually. Experience life to the fullest that you possibly can. Don't let those who suffer from DI (disease ignorance) control your happiness. Let them suffer until they find help through your videos.00
